BEIJING, China – Dafne Schippers of the Netherlands out dipped Elaine Thompson of Jamaica to win the gold medal of the 200 metres at the World Championships here.
Thompson fought hard to take the lead with 70 metres to go but Schippers did likewise in the last 20 and then beat her with the dip to win in 21.63 seconds, a championships record. Thompson did 21.66 seconds with Jamaica’s veteran Veronica Campbell-Brown finishing third in 21.97.
