Several Caribbean stars will be in action at Sunday’s (12 July) Track Town Classic here in Edmonton, Alberta.
The meet, the final stop in the National Track League (NTL) of Canada, will have world superstars such as World 400m champion LaShawn Merritt, Olympic Games 400m champion Sanya Richards-Ross, former World and Olympic Games champion Jeremy Wariner and Ashton Easton, the world record holder in the decathlon.
Jamaicans – Olympic gold medallists Nesta Carter and Sherone Simpson, headline the Caribbean names down to compete.
Carter awaits Canadians Justyn Warner, Gavin Smellie and Akeem Haynes in the men’s 100m. In the women’s event, Samantha Henry-Robinson, Simone Facey and Simpson take on Sanya Richards-Ross and Mikele Barber of USA.
Simpson and Simone Facey will appear in the women’s 200m where they will encounter Americans Shalonda Solomon and Mikele Barber.
Anastasia Le-Roy and Patricia Hall are in the women’s 400m with Americans Richards-Ross, Monica Hargrove and Jessica Beard.
Jean Romando of Bahamas and Grenadian Bralon Taplin will go up against Merritt and Wariner in the men’s 400m.
The men’s 200m will have Jamaican Rasheed Dwyer and Antiguan Miguel Francis, who ran 19.76 at his country’s trials two weeks ago. American Wallace Spearmon and Harry Adams, along with Canadian Aaron Brown, will test them.
Beijing-bound, Shevon Stoddart faces American Tiffany Williams in the women’s 400 hurdles.
Shermaine Williams, another Jamaican on track for the World Champs, comes up against American Ginnie Crawford and Canadians Phylicia George and Nikkita Holder in the women’s 100m hurdles.
Jamaica College schoolboy, Tyler Mason, Eddie Lovett of Virgin Islands and Mikel Thomas of Trinidad & Tobago will face Eaton in the men’s 110m hurdles.
Jamaican Kimarra McDonald, a 2015 World Relays contestant, is in the women’s 800m and Ramon McLean of Jamaica and Leevan Sands of Bahamas are in the men’s triple jump.
