TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama women’s team remains third while the men’s team is 10th in the final edition of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I Team Computer Rankings released earlier this week.
The rankings are the final survey of the teams heading into the NCAA South Region Championships, slated to be held on Friday, Nov. 14, in Tallahassee, Fla.
In their most recent competition, the Alabama women’s team finished third at the SEC Cross Country Championships on Oct. 31 in Tuscaloosa, marking a three-spot leap for the women in the standings from their 2013 SEC finish. The Crimson Tide men’s squad finished sixth, an improvement of five places from the squad’s 11th place standing in 2013. The third-place women’s finish marked the highest at a conference championship since the Tide finished second three years in a row from 1992-94.
The USTFCCCA team rankings are compiled by mathematical formulae based on national descending order lists and data taken from previous seasons. For the preseason ranking and early-season rankings, data will be taken from previous seasons as well as the current season.
The purpose and methodology of the rankings is to create an index that showcases the teams that have the best potential of achieving the top spots in the national team race. Rankings points do not equate with NCAA Championships team points.
