IAAF announces bidding for 2017 – 2019 events

The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) has sent a circular to its Member Federations, announcing the opening of bidding opportunities for four World Athletics Series events (World Championships).

IAAF has opened a new bid processes for the following events:

*2017 IAAF World Youth Championships: this competition features the World’s best 16 and 17-year old athletes

*2017 IAAF World Cross Country Championships: the oldest competition on the IAAF calendar brings together world-class sport and nature.

*2018 IAAF Continental Cup: the premier team competition of world athletics.

*2019 IAAF World Championships: IAAF’s flagship event and the third largest sport event in the world.

The deadline for receipt of a Letter of Intent is 7 April 2014. The cities will then receive all bid documentation by the end of April. The completed bid application and documentation are to be handed in on 22 September 2014. Presentation of bids to the IAAF Council and the final decision will take place inNovember 2014.

For further inquiries about these or other IAAF events, IAAF secretary general Essar Gabriel will host two information sessions for cities during the upcoming SportAccord Convention in Antalya, Turkey  (April 6-9).
