Sagicor surpasses target of $17M for Sigma Run beneficiaries

Sagicor Group Jamaica, organisers of the annual Sigma Corporate Run, surpassed its monetary target yet again when a total of $21,679,075 Jamaican dollars was presented to the 2014 charities during a symbolic cheque handover at the 16th staging on Sunday.

Representatives of the charities; Dr Jennifer Knight-Madden of The Sickle Cell Unit TMRI at the University of the West Indies and the Sickle Cell Trust in Mandeville; Dr Minerva Thame of The Special Care Nursery at the University Hospital of the West Indies and Dr Maolynne Miller of Jamaica Kidney Kids Foundation and Professor Graham Serjeant of the Sickle Cell Trust; were all there for the symbolic presentation.

Shawn Pitter and Danielle James were the victors of the male and female Open Run at the 16th staging of the event.
Pitter won in 16 minutes and 29 seconds ahead of Dwayne Gordon and Garfield Gordon while James took the female section ahead of Trudy Graham

Sagicor Sigma Corporate Run also saw the largest amount of registrants in its 16 year history, with 22,367 individuals enrolling in accordance with its 'Save Our Children, Save Our Future' 2014 tagline. 

Ingrid Card, Assistant Vice President of Sagicor's Group Marketing said "the support from Jamaicans was overwhelming. We want to thank every single person that registered, donated and volunteered to make a difference.  Without the 22,367 participants the Sigma Run would not what it is.  Sigma Run shows that when we come together we can do anything. 

The 5.5k walk, run and wheel chair road race was the massive support from volunteers, sponsors and corporate Jamaica. Scotiabank won the award for the largest corporate team, comprising of 548 participants while the corporate run male team was presented to Kingston Bookshop Limited; with the female corporate Run team title going to  National Commercial Bank.
