MU’s track and field finish Terrier Invitational on high

BOSTON, Mass. – MU’s track and field teams wrapped up a busy weekend with Day Two of the Terrier Invitational on Saturday, with the majority of the men’s events coming on the second day of competition. The weekend saw the opening day of competition include most of the women’s events.

The men’s distance relay medley group of Andrew Langille (Scarborough, Ontario, Canada/R.S. McLaughlin C.V.I.), Dylan Capwell (Hopatcong, N.J./Hopatcong), Kevin Sullivan (Metuchen, N.J./Metuchen/Middlesex CC), and Domenick D’Agostino (Wallington, N.J./Wallington) won the event in 9:54.86, which is not only an IC4A qualifying time but the second best in school history. The DMR team won the event by nearly seven seconds.

Other meet highlights included Tim Wilson (Washingtonville, N.J./Washingtonville)’s weight throw, which placed him in the top ten of the event with a throw of 56’ 10 ¼“. Junior Joey Marini (Lincoln Park, N.J./Boonton) claimed third place in the high jump, leaping 6’ 8 ¼“ and finishing near the top of a 35 competitor field.

Langille not only helped the DMR team win, he also claimed a top ten finish, placing sixth in the 1000 meter run in 2:24.53. Graham Huggins-Filozof (Freewood Acres, N.J./Freehold Township) was the top MU finisher in the mile, racing it in 4:13.86. In the 4×400 relay, it was John Malespina (Park Ridge, N.J./Park Ridge), Geordan Ferguson (Lakehurst, N.J./Manchester Township), and Sullivan joining Capwell to finish the relay in 3:19.31, an IC4A qualifying time. In the 60 meter hurdles, Jalen Walker (Burlington, N.J./BCIT/Burlington Township) nabbed a third place finish, completing the event in 8.05 seconds.

Errol Jeffrey (Brooklyn, N.Y./Transit Tech/Bronx C.C.) won the shot put with a toss of 59’ 1 ½“ to top a field of 64 throwers. Jeffrey also finished third in the weight throw. Khari Bowen (Monroe, N.J./Monroe Township) and D’Agostino both ran marks of 8:29, finishing within a second of each other in the 3000 meter run. Ahmier Dupree (Lakewood, N.J./Lakewood/Montclair State) finished tenth in the 60 meter dash and wasn’t done, finishing at the top MU runner in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.39. Capwell also won the 800 with an MU freshman record and an IC4A qualifying time of 1:51.15.

On the women’s side on Saturday, the distance medley relay team of Tionna Garner (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Catholic Academy), Zoya Naumov (Bellaterra, Spain/FMTE/Ramon Fuste Bellaterra), Jenna Cupp (Newark Valley, N.Y./Newark Valley), and McKenna Coakley (Port Reading, N.J./Woodbridge) won the DMR with a time of 11:59.78, which is also a freshman record. The DMR was the only women’s event that took place Saturday.

Elsewhere, Ferguson was the top MU finished in the 400. Liam Vogt (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by the Sea) picked up a top ten finish in the long jump.

MU track and field will compete in a pair of events again next weekend, with the Bison Open and Multi at Bucknell University taking place on Friday and Saturday and the Columbia Lions’ Invitational on Saturday at the New York Armory.
