Rio Olympic Games 400m bronze medallist Shericka Jackson and Javon Francis were among the stars that secured victories at Saturday’s UWI Invitational.
Several other Olympians, included Megan Simmonds, Federick Dacres, Janieve Russell, Shanieka Ricketts and Trinidad and Tobago’s Emmanuel Callender were winners at the Usain Bolt Track, Mona.
MVP’s Jackson ran a personal best 11.32secs to win the women’s 100m dash. Stephenie McPherson, her MVP teammate, was second in 11.50.
The men’s 100m dash went to Callender, representing UWI, in 10.28. Nigel Ellis of Elite who won his heat in 10.29, was second overall.
Sasha-Lee Forbes of GC Foster College ran 23.48 to beat Sprintec’s Gayon Evans, 23.52 in the women’s 200m.
Natasha Morrison of Sprintec finished third in 23.87 and MVP and Jamaica Olympic 100m finalist Christiana Williams, fourth in 24.14.
Akan’s Francis won the men’s half lapper in 20.73 ahead of GC Foster College’s Oshane Bailey, 20.85.
Russell of MVP ran away with the top spot in the women’s one lap event, 52.59 to finish ahead of MICO’s Dawnalee Loney, 53.18.
Martin Manley of Cameron Blazers was the men’s 400m winner in 46.36. Miguel Francis of Racers won his heat in 46.48, but was second overall, while Rasheed Dwyer of Sprintec ended third in 46.64.
MVP’s Simmonds raced to victory in the women’s 100m hurdles in 13.05 to beat former World Youth champion Yanique Thompson of GC Foster College, 13.15.
Rohan Cole won the men’s 110m hurdles in record 13.85.
Ronda Whyte of Sprintec took the women’s 400m hurdles in 56.38 ahead of UTech’s Shannon Kalawan, 59.10.
UTech’s Marvin Williams won the men’s 400m hurdles in 51.74 ahead of UWI’s Jowayne Hibbert, 51.99.
Tamara Myers of UWI took the women’s long jump with a leap of 6.45m, just beating her teammate Todea-Kay Willis, 6.42m.
Federick Dacres of UWI Mona won the men’s discus and shot put with throws of 66.38m and 19.78m respectively.
Shanieka Ricketts of UWI Mona topped the women’s triple jump with 14.20m
