Olympic Games champion Hansle Parchment made light work of his opening round of his men’s 110m hurdles heat on day 2 of the World Athletics Championships Oregon22 at Hayward Field in Eugene.
Parchment, 13.17secs, leads his Jamaican teammates Rasheed Broadbell, 13.28 and Orlando Bennett, 13.55, into the men’s 110m hurdles semi-finals.
Grant Holloway is the fastest from the first round with 13.17secs.
Kemar Mowatt, 49.44, Jaheel Hyde, 50.03 and Shawn Rowe, 49.51 are in the men’s 400m hurdles semi-finals. American Khallifah Rosser leads the field with 48.62.
Rai Benjamin, 49.06, Karsten Warholm, 49.34 and Alison Dos Santos, 49.41 are some big names to advance to the next stage.
Shaneika Ricketts secured the automatic qualifying mark (14.40), reaching 14.45 meters on her first attempt.
Ackelia Smith, in her first international senior competition, got a personal best of 14.36m on her final attempt to book her championship round ticket. Also in the final round is Kimberly Williams, who hop-skip-jump 14.27m.
In the women’s high jump, Jamaicans Kimberly Williamson and Lamara Distin cleared 1.90m to secure their final place. None of the competitors in the field got over the automatic qualifying height of 1.95m.
