The Czech Republic topped the standings at the European Team Championships First League in Cluj-Napoca with 320.5 points ahead of Belarus (315), who will also get promoted to the Super League.
Overnight leaders, the Netherlands dropped back to third with 300 points. The second-day highlight was Belarus’ Elvira Herman winning the 100m hurdles in a championship record of 12.62 from Belgium’s Anne Zagre (12.87), Zoe Sedney from the Netherlands (12.94) and Swiss teenager Ditaji Kambundji (12.98). Vitali Parakhonka also won the men’s 110m hurdles for Belarus in 13.50.
In other track events, Mike Foppen from the Netherlands won the 3000m in 7:57.43, and Switzerland’s Fabienne Schlumpf dominated the 5000m in 15:42.54. Czech Republic’s Jan Jirka won the 200m in 20.82. Belgium’s Imke Vervaet upset Lieke Klaver from the Netherlands in the women’s 200m, 23.30 to 23.32.
In the 4x400m, the Czech Republic won the men’s race in a European leading 3:02.42 ahead of Netherlands 3:02.49. Belarus won the women’s 4x400m in 3:28.14 from Switzerland (3:28.77) and Czech Republic (3:30.51).
Switzerland’s Salome Lang set a national record and Olympic qualifying mark of 1.96m in the high jump. Romania’s Daniela Stanciu, with 1.92m, finished second. Turkey’s Emel Dereli won the women’s shot put with 18.50m.
