Russell, Segree to represent Jamaica at 2018 Winter Olympics

Two Jamaican track and field athletes, Carrie Russell and Audra Segree helped Jamaica women’s sled to the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea.

The Jamaica Bobsleigh & Skeleton Federation (JBSF) made the announcement on January 15, 2018.

Brakeman, Carrie Russell will make her first Winter Games appearance at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea. A member of the MVP Track Club in Jamaica, she won gold in the 4×100 metres relay at the 2013 World Championships in
Moscow, Russia. This is Russell’s second season with the JBSF.

“This is one of the happiest moments of my life, I never dreamed that I would become a bobsleigh athlete.
Today also marks three years since I lost my father, which makes this journey even more meaningful. I have to thank the Man above that has blessed me with the opportunity to represent my country at this level. I look forward to representing my
country.”

Audra Segree has also been selected as a brakeman and will travel to PyeongChang. Segree, an admired track athlete with a personal best of 11.30 seconds in100 metres describes this experience as

“A leap of faith and a dream come true. Later I will be representing my country as one of the first women bobsleigh athletes in the Olympics. I am overwhelmed with joy knowing that I have helped make history for my country. I am really grateful for this experience.”

They will be joined by Jazmine Fenlator-Victorian, the pilot for the Jamaica team.

30 years after Jamaica Bobsleigh’s first Olympic appearance, and after undergoing structural reorganization leading into the Olympic season, this achievement is a testament to the strength of the program and excellence of its athletes.
