Sands hopeful in the sand

FREEPORT, Bahamas – Bahamas’ 4 time Olympian and 2008 Olympic bronze medalist Leevan Sands is hopeful of making the London World Championship qualification mark at the Blue Marlin Classics Last Chance meet to be held here at the Freeport National Stadium on Saturday, July 22.

Sands has been impacted by injuries on his quest to World Championship qualification but is not deterred.

“I haven’t been able to train like I wanted to for the past 8 weeks due to my foot,” explained Sands. “I started to feel a little better right before I went to the Guyana meet (July 1),” he added.

Sands believes he has gained some momentum with his jump of 16.23m at the Aliann Pompey Invitational last Saturday in Guyana and is looking forward to competing for his home fans and making the qualification mark of 16.80m to compete in the London World Championships this summer.
