KINGSTON, Jamaica — The likes of Yohan Blake, Tyquendo Tracey and others will aim to move one step closer to making Jamaica’s Worlds team for the 100m when they lineup in the event’s semi-finals on Friday night at the 2019 Jamaica Senior and Junior National Championships.
Defending national champion Tracey will start from the fifth lane in semi-final heat one after winning his quarter-final race with a time of 10.26 seconds on Thursday night.
Expected to challenge the 26-year-old who now trains at the Tumbleweed Track Club for a semis place are Sprintec’s Rasheed Dwyer, who clocked 10.17 seconds to win his heat and Florida State’s Andre Ewers, who posted 10.25 to finish behind Dwyer in the quarter-finals.
Former Commonwealth Games champion Kemar Bailey-Cole, as well as veteran Nesta Carter, Raheem Chambers and former World record holder Asafa Powell are also listed to race from semis one.
Yohan Blake, in the meantime, starts as the man to beat in semi-final two.
The 2011 world champion enters these championships as the fastest Jamaican this season with 9.98 seconds and he used limited force to qualifying Thursday, posting 10.19 to win his quarter-final heat.
Blake is expected to be tested by Waseem Williams of Purdue University’s who ran the joint quickest time in the quarter-finals, at 10.17.
Hunting the place in the final as well from the second semi-final are Senoj-Jay Givans, Oshane Bailey, Julian Forte and Kenroy Anderson.
The semi-finals of the men’s 100m are scheduled for 7:12 pm, with the final set for 9:15 pm.
