Sebastian Coe - World Athletics President

World Athletics president Seb Coe said global federations will have to be proactive in starting up the sport again following the easing of pandemic restrictions in some countries.

“We have to be guided by what governments, the WHO and local authorities are telling us, but we also have to make our own decisions and make sensible compromises,” he told Indian television channel WION.

The coronavirus, which has killed over 319,000 worldwide, caused many events, included the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, to be postponed or cancelled in the last three months.

“There may be a moment when a sport decides that it is ready to stage events even if it is not always with the approval of those authorities.

“We will be respectful, but we have to make decisions in the best interest of our sport and our athletes,” he added.
