A survey conducted by Christian Taylor-led Athletics Association has found that 60% of athletes would prefer marks achieved before 1 December 2020 to be accepted for Tokyo Olympics qualification.
The athlete representation group’s poll had 685 respondents from 82 countries.
This week World Athletics announced a suspension of the qualifying window until 30 November due to the decimation of the athletics calendar this summer.
According to the poll, 56% of athletes believed that, if they were unable to compete during this period, it would be unfair for other athletes in other countries where restrictions had been lifted.
It also found that 81% of athletes believe the World Rankings system needed to be revised for qualification purposes.
The survey also found 82% of athletes are continuing to train, and 86% would like to compete this summer or autumn.
Meanwhile, 78% of those who took part were concerned about the reduction of anti-doping tests this year caused by the pandemic.
