Janeek Brown runs WL time, Skeen opens season at Larry Wieczorek Invitational

Janeek Brown 12.68 wins the women's 100m hurdles semifinal

IOWA CITY, USA – Janeek Brown easily brushed aside Olympic medalist Kristi Castlin and company while Odean Skeen showed positive early season form at Saturday’s (18 Jan) Larry Wieczorek Invitational in Iowa City.

Brown won the women’s 60m hurdles in a world leading 8.01s to beat Bahamian Devynne Charlton, 8.08s and Ebony Morrison 8.17. Olympic Games bronze medalist Kristi Castlin, 8.20 (8.16 in heats) followed them across the line.

In the men’s 60m, sub-10 sprinter Skeen, returning from injuries, ran 6.67s, the same time as Jaylen Bacon, for fourth. Brandon Carnes and Keitavious Walter both ran 6.58, but the former got the nod.

Marvin Bracy, 6.66s, was third in the event.

In the Premier women’s 400m event, Trinidad and Tobago’s Sparkle McKnight, 53.32, beat a strong field that included American Shamier Little, 54.74.

Aaron Mallett won the hurdles men’s 60m hurdles in 7.59 ahead of Doha participant and 13-sec flat runner Daniel Roberts 7.67. Devon Allen crossed the line in 7.73s.

Kiara Parker won women 60m in 7.25 (7.23 in heats).

Jamaican and Minnesota’s freshman Janielle Josephs ran 55.53 for third in the women’s 400m. Shannon Meisberger of Arizona, 55.07s, won the event.
