A new range of Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018) merchandise has today been unveiled with the launch of the Gold Coast 2018 Official Online Shop – shop.gc2018.com.
Headlined by the cute and cuddly Borobi plush soft toys, the GC2018 merchandise range features 60 new official merchandise products including t-shirts, polos, hoodies, caps, commemorative pins, keyrings and outback leather hats.
The GC2018 Official Online Shop will grow to stock over 500 different products in the lead-up to the 4-15 April 2018 Games.
The online shop marks the next major phase of GOLDOC’s retail plans which will eventually see GC2018 products sold at dedicated Gold Coast 2018 Official shops and via other retail outlets.
Other GC2018 Official retail outlets will be opened in airports in mid-2017, with a Broadbeach Superstore and Surfers Paradise Store to follow in December 2017.
From today, fans will also be able to purchase GC2018 merchandise from the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, with a percentage of the proceeds from the sale of the Borobi plush soft toys to be donated to the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital Foundation as part of an agreement to support koala rescue and conservation.
Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation (GOLDOC) CEO Mark Peters today joined Borobi in stocking the first of the Borobi plush soft toys on the shelves at the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary store.
“This is another significant milestone for GOLDOC on the road to GC2018,’’ he said.
“We are really proud of this merchandise range, in particular the Borobi mascot range which features plush toys, a backpack and cap which will no doubt be very popular with children.
“This range of merchandise has been designed to suit all ages.”
Newly crowned GC2018 Ambassador Laura Geitz was one of the first individuals to lay eyes on the new merchandise when she surprised children at the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital in Brisbane with the new toys as gifts in the lead-up to Christmas.
“I really love the Borobi plush toys, they just make you smile and I’m sure the kids are going to love them,” said Ms Geitz.
“I’m really excited about joining as a GC2018 Ambassador and helping to share in the excitement of this global event.”
GOLDOC master licensee MATEVENTS has appointed a range of sub licensees to produce the GC2018 merchandise range, with more than 50 per cent of companies based in South East Queensland.
