With the start of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil only a few days away, one can’t help but feel a sense of euphoria in the lead up to what we expect to be intense and epic clashes. For many athletes, the Olympic Games represents a sense of pride and glory, not only for self, but for country.
The Rio Games has been a talking point for many different reasons. From the emergence of the Zika virus, which has plagued several countries including Brazil, to concerns of contaminated water and even security concerns, some agencies have even called for the Games to postponed, until threats have been alleviated.
However, the sheer history of the Olympics, coupled with global stars such as Jamaica’s Usain Bolt, Great Britain’s Mohamed Farah and America’s Alyson Felix and Justin Gatlin, has overshadowed the negativity which surrounds the Games.
The arrival of global superstar Usain Bolt, gave new life and enthusiasm to the Games, putting to rest any fears that the Games will be postponed or disturbed in any sense. Bolt strolled into Brazil like the champion he is and the world started saying Rio will be fine because the big man has arrived.
Believe it or not, the power charisma cannot be discounted and the fact that the Olympics is about history, pride and glory, makes it perfect for athletes such as Bolt, Campbell-Brown and Fraser-Pryce. These athletes have shown that they run for country and national pride first and self-gratification comes after.
It is believed by many that this Olympics will be the best one to date and will see some reaching legend status, while some will make and look to solidify their place in the halls of history.
As Jamaicans, we are proud and strong; we fight and compete with our whole heart. We run, jump, swim, throw and move with the spirit of the whole nation. “Out of many, one people”.
WTF Bolt is nothing against the great Michael Phelps. Phelps has 4 times more medals than pissy Bolt
Bolt is a world Champion! Love the guy!
