Jamaica's Powell Powell, 30, was punished with an 18-month ban at a hearing on Thursday after testing positive for the stimulant oxilofrine.

At the National Senior Championship, June 21, 2013 after the 100m finals, Powell returned positive analytical finding for a stimulant, oxilofrine. He blamed his former Canadian physical trainer Chris Xuereb for positive, which was found in supplements given to him.

Powell, shortly after the ruling, said "This ruling is not only unfair, it is patently unjust. Panels such as these, I understood, were assembled to allow athletes who, consciously or unconsciously come into conflict with the rules of sport, a chance at equitable redemption. Unfortunately, this was not the case."

Meanwhile, the public gave mixed reaction to the 18-month ban. Below are unedited comments posted on TrackAlerts.com facebook page

Everton Hylton: This will past one day man give God thank for is blessing for life
Theo Wilson Silly jadco its a stimulant

Marva Rhoden: Chin up and trust God, he's your redemption don't ever lose sight of that.. Love you endlessly

Adrian Watkins: You did the crime, now you gotta do the time! Both Sherone and Asafa will be able to compete next year, which is a championship year. Man/woman up, take responsibility for your part in the matter, serve your suspension and come back next year! God speed to both of them.

Raymond Hylton: One of the amazing things about the Sherone Asafa saga is they trusted a stranger from no where and who has "fishy" past . They allow their personal trainer to lead down a path which carries dire consequence and thus is the result of their ban. I am would to suggest to Mr. Powell and Ms Simpson that you should separate yourselves from Mr. Paul Doyle and then sue him for every penny you lost and will loose.
Since he was the one who hired Chris Xureb , he should take some of the responsibilities. He complained that his clients ban is too harsh , which makes me want to puke. You hired the physical trainer without checking out employment history and criminal record. You knew how sensitive drugs taking is in athletics and you didn't even follow due process.
Mr. Powell and Miss Simpson , as lover of sports and my country , am begging you and bended knees to either fire your agent or sue him or do both. You should you not do it , you both would be considered as two first athletic idiots.
Wake up and do the time as you have been grossly negligent
Wake up !!

Megan Sutton: No matter what you are still my favourite. Hold the faith and never give up

Kristal Rene'e Coleman: Track and field is a risky business. These athletes need to educate themselves on these substances because these coaches are trying to get paid and will do whatever they have to get as much money as they can get. I'm truly sorry to hear this but he can still train and come back stronger than ever. #TeamUSA
