The World Athletics U20 Championships in Nairobi have been postponed due to the coronavirus.
A statement from World Athletics reads: “It is with regret that World Athletics, together with the Government of Kenya and Athletics Kenya, have made the decision to postpone the World Athletics U20 Championships Nairobi 2020 (7-12 July), due to the ongoing challenges posed by the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) internationally.
“We are working together to identify a mutually appropriate alternative date convenient for the Government of Kenya and elite competitors.”
Several sporting federations and fans have also called on the IOC to postpone the games because of the coronavirus, which has killed over 19,600 people worldwide.
The virus caused many qualifying events to be postponed or cancelled in the last two months. Some athletes are unable to train due to the containment measures in their country.
