Norwegian athletics hero, Karsten Warholm, set a new world 300m hurdles record on Thursday (11 June) as the Diamond League returned in exhibition style.
Due to the restrictions that are still in place in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, organisers are staging exhibition-style events.
The sharp-lipped world champion lived up to his pre-event billing with a stunning 33.78 world best in the 300m hurdles.
His time was well within the previous mark of 34.48, set by Great Britain’s Chris Rawlinson in 2002, and under Kevin Young’s 400m world record split (34.1) to boot.
“I am used to competing against myself in training! It’s better to do it alone than to not do it at all,” Karsten Warholm.
Denmark’s Sara Slott Petersen won an entertaining women’s 300m hurdles in 39.42.
World record holder Mondo Duplantis won the men’s pole vault in a thrilling virtual duel with London 2012 gold medallist Renaud Lavillenie.
