Two-time Olympic Games 200m champion Veronica Campbell-Brown was among the newest inductees at the 62nd annual Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame banquet Friday (13 March) night in Arkansas, USA.

Campbell-Brown was a four-time All-American at the University of Arkansas. She is also an eight-time medalist at the Olympics for Jamaica.

The 37-year-old sprinter remembered her early days growing up.

“As long as I can remember, I was always fascinated by the fun factor of running,” Campbell-Brown said. “So much so, I’d find a way to put running into my daily activities.

“I’d race the girls as well as the boys to see who could get from point A to point B. I can assure you that I got to the finish line first.”

Campbell-Brown is the second woman in history, behind Bärbel Wöckel of Germany (1976 and 1980 Olympics), to win two consecutive Olympic 200m events in 2004 and 2008.

At the World Championships level, Campbell-Brown won 100m in 2007 and the 200m in 2011.

In total, she won 11 World Championships medals, five at the Commonwealth Games, two World Indoors and one World Relays.

The former Vere Technical student has personal best times of 10.76 (100m) and 21.74 (200m).

Other inductees of this year’s class were Forte, Auburn football coach Gus Malzahn, former Arkansas football player Anthony Lucas, former Arkansas basketball player Jim Counce, former Arkansas State basketball player John Tate, former University of Central Arkansas women’s basketball coach Ron Marvel, and the travelling women’s basketball team the All-American Red Heads.
