Usain Bolt to feature at Tokyo 2020
Usain Bolt ayt Tokyo 2020

Track and field legend Usain Bolt raised eyebrows earlier this week with his’ return to competition’ comment.
Bolt, who retired from the sport in 2017 after the London World Championships, explained the likely way back.

“If my coach came back and told me, let’s do this, I will, because I believe so much in my coach,” Bolt was quoted as saying.

On Wednesday, the Jamaica Observer quoted Mills as saying: “It was not I who told him to retire.”

Bolt retirement came after dominating the 100m and 200m for nine years.

Overall, he won eight Olympic Games gold medals, 14 at the World Championships, including 11 gold.

“So, I know if he says we’re going to do this, I know it’s possible. Give Glen Mills a call, and I’ll be back.”

However, at the same time, Bolt admitted he is staying away from the track.

“My coach gets too excited when I come to the track, so I stay away,” said the world 100m (9.58) and 200m (19.19) record holder.

  1. Track and field needs the bolt motivation right now, I AM YOUR COACH , LETS DO THIS USAIN, WELCOME BACK. 🙂

    • He should stay n retirement he will always be the greatest. Know one can ever take tat away from him. We got young stars coming up. N its there turn. So Usain relax enjoy your grandkids you are the greatest track and field of all time let the young guys have it now

  2. I think he could make a successful comeback, but age and layoff are the enemies of short sprinters. Now, if he wanted to run the 400, that’s something worth getting excited about. He has the physical tools, and even if he retains only 80% of his sprint speed the 400 WR would be within his reach. But the 4 is a different kind of animal mentally and physically. Jamaica has had some great quarter-milers, but he could be the greatest of all time.

  3. Yes, 3 years off and being 33 is not a positive, but I would never bet against Bolt. If his head and heart are truly in it, he can win.

    • A come back is good for the sport, just his presence is good enough, 33 is still young, look at Christino still active at that age, look at Mike Tyson at 54, so it’s not about your age if your heart, speed and fitness is on top, surprise us Usain

  4. U already left a legacy, it would be a shame to see u return. Let the young ones rise. Just like football, I’ve never seen someone quiting football and then returning to the tournament again

  5. I AM USA BUT I APPRECIATE GOOD ATHLETES. MR BOLT AND MRS SHIRLEY ANN FRAZIER WHOM I WOULD LOVE TO SEE RUN IN PERSON. (TRACK AND FIELD NEEDS MR BOLT)…

  6. Ernie Grey I am not contradicting myself…you are trying to put your own meaning to what I said…. instead of just reading and following you assume. You stated his comeback wouldn’t make sense, that’s what I am arguing against…Whether or not he can return and still be one of the best is a different argument…

      • Ernie Grey we are not just talking about any athlete here, we talking about Bolt a once in a generation athlete…. too many superlatives to describe him. If he says he can come back and win a medal for Jamaica, then don’t doubt him, he’s probably our best chance of getting a medal in the sprint

        • That’s your opinion Michael which you are entitled to!..my opinion is no!..i say no because not training for 3years is a loss you cannot make up for just training in the fall in order to compete at the Olympic Games!..had Bolt taken only 2018′ off from Track and Field…then started training again in the fall of 2018′ and even competing sparingly in 2019′..i would then say yes Bolt would be a factor especially with having the Olympics delayed for one year!..the thing is a Track and Field season is relatively short and i am of the opinion he would not have enough time to get sharp enough to run at an optimum level to medal in only one season of training also being mindful that Bolt does not compete indoors hence him not racing competitively for January,February and March 2021!..

  7. His comeback at this point wouldn’t make any sense as he has lost 3years of Track and Field training and competing!..Track and Field is a rythym sport and any long term layoff spills disaster for a comeback especially at 33years old… with the Olympics supposedly happening next year, one year of training coming back from 3years of Track and Field inactivity is not going to do it!..

    • Ernie Grey Doesnt matter. If he qualifies via trials he deserves to go…If not then he wont just be put in the squad to embarrass himself. His comeback is a plus either way…It will motivate the entire team.

      • Lexx Gayle you are missing the point!..if he wants to comeback surely he’s entitled to!..my point is this…the extended layoff he’s had is 3 years…not 3 weeks!..as a former sprinter myself who has actual experience with competing your body will not go just because you want it to especially at his age!…there exists a certain amount of background work that’s neccessary that he has missed for 3years that you cannot recapture training in one season…the athletes body does not respond that way!..his Track and Field inactivity will also have a build up of Lactic acid in the body that could also be problematic!..unless you are or were a Track and Field athlete yourself you will not understand this!..my opinion remains the same…his comeback will not work more so having less than a year to train for the Olympic Games!..

        • Ernie Grey I already know what your point is sir.. Your clearly missing mine. Bolt has an effect on and off the track, just the mere mention of his return will encourage many. A return is his choice, obviously its next to impossible to be anywhere near his former self but like I said if he makes it through trials then he deserves to be on the team if not then end of story…win win either way. Also lest you forget he did football training for a part of those 3 years.

          • Lexx Gayle Football training is not Track and Field Training!..i have done both…two different skill sets….and once again you have missed my point…you are stating reasons why he should come back and i’m telling you why it will not work!..read my thread again…you are also assuming he’s coming back..i will bet you he doesn’t because he knows better!..in my opinion he misses the limelight and put that out there for that reason!.

        • Ernie Grey Wrong again. Your assuming you know what I am thinking…You dont, so just read what I type. The first day this story came out I stated on this page that Bolt is likely just joking…I am not stating reasons why he should come back I stated the benefits of him coming back theres a difference. Obviously track training is not football training, I simply added that to point out that he hasn’t been only partying and drinking for the last 3 years…He already said his reason for thinking of a come back was because he missed the fans and the crowds so your opinion on that aspect is not needed.

          • Lexx Gayle why are you regurgitating your opinion!..this particular point is not muted!.what else can be added to this?…you are arguing for simlpy arguing!..you are contradicting yourself because you were trying to make a point that he has been training(football)…i am assuming you feel as if this is enough for him to be successful with a track and field comback!..you are all over the place because of what was stated before it makes no sense for me to repeat it as it has already been dealt with!..

  8. I don’t understand, coz i thought it was his individual decision to leave athletics. Mills must decide for him. From a psychological point of view i believe he want to come back. Welcum back bro. Wish you all the best
