Track and field will resume in Jamaica this weekend after getting government approval.

The JAAA, in a letter to coaches and team managers, said they have “received permission from the Government of Jamaica, through the Ministry of Health and Wellness, The Ministry of Sports and the Ministry of Local Government & Rural Development, to host a series of Qualification Trials.”
The Trials, the JAAA said, is to “give our junior and senior athletes the much-needed competition.”

The correspondent, sent by Ian Forbes, JAAA Competitions Commission Chairman, noted: “THERE WILL BE STRICT ENFORCEMENT OF ALL COVID-19 PROTOCOLS.”

According to the schedule, the meets, all under the control of the JAAA, will be STETHS, Kirkvine, GC Foster, Jamaica College, National Stadium, UWI, Calabar and Excelsior.
The National Stadium in Kingston will host senior athlete only and offer only the 100m, 200m, 400m, 110m hurdles, 100m hurdles, 800m, shot put, long and long jump.

Calabar High Track will offer all sprint hurdles and 100m, Excelsior only field events – spot put, javelin throw, triple jump, long jump and discus.

At the Usain Bolt, UWI Track, juniors will be in action in the long jump, high jump, discus, shot put, 5,000m, 1500m, 2000m steeplechase and 3,000m.

Jamaica College track will host athletes for the 400m, 400m hurdles, 200m, 800m and high jump.
Over in Spanish Town at GC Foster, the events listed are all hurdles only, while Kirkvine will host the 400m, 800m, 1500m, 3,000m, 5,000m and 200m (class 4 girls only).

In Santa Cruz, St. Elizabeth, STETHS will have the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, discus, shot put, long jump, and high jump.

February 27 to April 24 is the timeline set for the meets.

There is also a schedule for how athletes will take to the competition areas.

Session 1: Junior Girls – 8:30 am to 12:00 pm
Sanitization – 12:15 pm to 1:00 pm
Session 2: Junior Boys – 1:30 pm to 5:00 pm
Session 3: Senior Male & Female – 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm (Different Venue).
