Tina Clayton ran a personal best to win the U18 girls’ 100m final on Friday’s (9 July) opening day of the 2021 NACAC U18 and U23 Championships in San José, Costa Rica.

Clayton scorched the National Stadium track to take the event in 11.17, improving big time on her previous best of 11.25.

Serena Cole, Clayton’s Edwin Allen and Jamaica teammate, finished second in 11.52. Mariandree Chacon Aroche of Guatemala finished third in 11.81.

Grenada’s Halle Hazzard won the women’s U23 final in 11.42 ahead of St. Kitts and Nevis’ Amya Clarke, 11.90. Jamaica’s Ashanti Moore false-started.

Camille Rutherford of Bahamas won the U20 women in 11.36 ahead of Leah Bertrand of Trinidad and Tobago, 11.70 and Antigua and Barbuda’s Tokyo 2020 bound Joella Lloyd, 11.70.

Alicke Cranston of Jamaica won the U18 boys’ 100m gold medal in 10.42. Antigua and Barbuda’s Ajani Daley took silver in 10.68.

Kuron Griffiths of Barbados ran 10.33 to beat Jamaican Odaine McPherson, 10.39 and Kion Benjamin of Trinidad and Tobago, 10.40 in the U23 men 100m final.

Shiann Salmon was the lone competitor in the women’s U23 400m hurdles, and she crossed the line in 58.29. Jamaica’s Allah Baker won the U18 girls’ 4r00m hurdles in 63.36 ahead of Bahamian Kasha Neilly, 65.26.

Roshawn Clarke of Jamaica won the U18 boys’ event in 51.95 ahead of Bahamas’ Shimar Bain, 53.39.
Barbados’ pair od Rasheeme Griffith, 52.06 and Nathan Ferguson, 52.69, were the top U23 men finishers.

In the field, Jonathan Miller of Barbados won the U23 men’s triple jump with 16.00m. Jamaicans Cedricka Williams, 45.37m and Britannia Johnson, 43.59m, were the top two from the U18 girls’ discus.

Lamara Distin of Jamaica cleared 1.85m to beat Angela Gonzalez of Panama, 1.65m.
