Elaine Thompson-Herah sped to the second-fastest time in the world this year. She stamped her class on Sunday’s (2 May) Pure Athletics Sprint Elite Meet in Florida, USA.

Thomspon-Herah, the reigning Olympic Games sprint double champion, put down a fantastic time of 10.78 seconds to win the women’s 100m dash.
American Sha’Carri Richardson had the world’s fastest time of the year – 10.72 done in Florida over two weeks ago.

Jamaicans Natalliah Whyte finished second in 11.08 and Ashanti Moore third, in a personal best 11.10.

Khalifa St. Fort of Trinidad and Tobago continued her come back with 11.47 for eight.

In the men’s 100m, Deage 2011 World champion Yohan Blake and Cejhae Green of Antigua both crossed the line in 10.02 seconds, but the latter got the victory.

Two other Jamaicans, Nickel Ashmeade, 10.11 and Julian Forte, 10.19, finished seventh and ninth, respectively.

Jevaughn Minzie, 10.52 and Kevin Rattray, 10.53, ended out of the top 15.

Shericka Jackson ran 52.01 to win the women’s 400m ahead of Kaylin Whitney 52.29. Jamaicans Tiffany James, 52.67, Christine Day, 53.57 and Junelle Bromfield, 54.89, were third, fourth and sixth in the event.

        • Robert West I don’t think either of us could run 10.78. I read one article that says the wind speed was + 3.6 and had no idea there was a final. FYI – Jamaican born straight out a Treasure Beach, St Elizabeth. I support Elaine, SAFP, Nataliah White, Kevona Davis, Briana Williams, return of Burchell, Kiara Grant , the new Kemba Nelson, Joniele Smith, the 10.87 Natasha Morrison etc. My critique was not to downplay the results.
          Me did jus a get excited an neva wah get mi hopes up! Now since Tajay Miller clarify the speed I’m ecstatic because now Elaine almost match Sha’Carri Richardson 10.72.
