Calabar High School's Christopher Taylor has so far achieved one of his plans for Champs 2016. He faced the starter in heat 1 of the Class 2 boys’ 400m dash, went out hard and covered the field from very early.
Coming into the straight, with his competitors nowhere close, he cruised in to cross the line in 46.33, a new Class 2 boys’ 400m record.
The mark surpassed the Devaughn Baker of Jamaica College (JC) old mark of 46.64 set back in 2013.
The 2015 world youth champion, said the race went according to plan. “The plan was to break the record and take it out of the way (from the heats) and to get all the pressure out of the way,” said Taylor.
“I felt very comfortable doing it,” added Taylor, who awaits the second round on Thursday.
Wearing his customary headband, Taylor was the only one from the 24 qualifiers to go under 47 seconds. Romel Plummer of Munro 48.64, and Anthony Cox of St. Jago 48.88 recorded the next best times.
