Brianna Lyston, St. Jago, with 23.46 seconds, despite the illegal wind of 2.2m/s, is still a very impressive time. She achieved this in the semi-finals of the Class 4 girls’ 200m. Lyston, who turns 13 years old on May 24, returned in the final to World Age Group best of 23.72secs, this time into a negative -0.6m/s wind to break her prelims Champs record of 24.00secs. American Tia Jones ran the previous World Best of 23.81 (1.4m/s wind), two months before her 13th birthday. The 13-year-old World best is 23.74 (0.0m/s wind) by Symone Mason, also of USA.

2. Kevona Davis, Edwin Allen, stunned the massive crowd at the National Stadium on Saturday’s final day with 23.07 in the Class 3 girls’ 200m final to take down Anneisha McLaughlin’s 16-year-old record of 23.11. Davis looked to be in 22.9 shape, but eased down with her finger across her lips after realizing she had the race won.

3. Britany Anderson of Vere sizzled to an amazing 13.04 seconds clocking in the semi-finals of the Class 2 girls’ 100m hurdles. The first-year Class 2 speed hurdler decimated Holmwood Tech’s Shanette Allison 13.30 set earlier in the heats. Allison’s 13.30 run had broken the 13.37 Anderson ran in heat 1 , which at the time erased Peta-Gaye Williams (formerly of Camperdown) 13.38 mark.

4. Dejour Russell, Calabar, who ran the heats as if he wasn’t ready for Champs, returned to shock spectators with a Champs Record 13.21 to take the Class 1 boys’ 110m hurdles. The run erased Omar McLeod’s (formerly of KC) 13.24 set back in 2013. McLeod went on to win World Indoor and Olympic Games titles in 2016.

5. Gabrielle McDonald, Edwin Allen, won her first Champs medal with a big run. McDonald, who held her composure with Wolmer’s Janeek Brown pulling alongside her inch by inch, smashed the Champs record, this in the Class 1 girls’ 100m hurdles. The speed hurdler, who previously attended Holmwood, held off the fast finishing Brown to win in 13.12, erasing the 13.52 she ran in the semi-finals. Brown was second in 13.16secs.
