Marie-Josee Ta Lou from the Ivory Coast won a sprint double in windy conditions at Wednesday’s (19 May) Meeting Internazionale Citta di Castiglione in Castiglione, Italy.
One of the big names in African athletics, Ta Lou, won the 100m in 10.96 (+4.0m/s wind) and the 200m in 22.88 (+4.9m/s).
Teammate Arthur Gue Cisse won the men’s 100m with a wind-aided 10.05 (+6.0m/s) after 10.01 in the heat (+6.1m/s).
Other highlights included Dominican Republic’s Marileidy Paulino winning the 400m in 51.30. Zane Weir threw 20.28m in the shot put.
Meanwhile, in Eisenstadt, Austria, World bronze medallist Lukas Weisshaidinger set a world lead of 68.40m in the discus. Weisshaidinger was throwing for the first time this season.
The mark was the fifth-best result of his career and just over half a metre shy of his national record of 68.98m.
In Patra, Germany, on 19 May, Emmanouil Karalis cleared 5.56m in the pole vault at the national GP meet Tofalia.
World bronze medallist Ilya Ivanyuk cleared a personal best and world lead of 2.37m in the high jump in Smolensk, Russia. He had first-time clearances up to 2.35m and cleared 2.37m at the third.
In Nairobi, Kenya, on 17 May, World champion Hellen Obiri won the 5000m at the Kenya Defence Forces Championships in 15:22.64.
Joyce Chepkemoi (15:23.56) and Sheila Chepkirui (15:28.01) took second and third in the event.
Collins Koros won the 10,000m in 28:39.3, and Matthew Sawe cleared 2.25m in the high jump.
Over in South Tyler, USA, on 15 May, At the 15 km road race, Caroline Kipkirui in the women’s competition blew through 10K in 31:08 and smashed the course record with a 47:30 finish time.
James Ngandu won the men’s event in 44:38 ahead of David Bett 44:42 and Dominic Korir 45:08. From RRW.
Kenyan Martha Akeno 2:45:34 and Donnie Cowart 2:17:43 achieved course records while winning the 11th Allscripts Tobacco Road Marathon in Cary, the USA, on the 15th.
