DOHA, Qatar – Steven Gardiner still can’t believe he is the world 400m champion. “I can’t believe I am a world champion,” said Gardiner.

Gardiner won in 43.48 for a new Bahamian record. Anthony Jose Zambrano ran a personal best 44.15 for silver and Fred Kerley, the second-fastest man this year with 43.64, took bronze in 44.17.

“It feels pretty good,” added Gardiner after his 400m victory at the IAAF World Athletics Championships Doha 2019.

“It’s so big to win two medals for The Bahamas after the hurricane,” he said of his and Shaunae Miller-Uibo’s silver in the women’s 400m.

“We did it for our country. Thank God, we were able to get two medals,” he added.

  1. So proud of this young man. He has been through a lot but kept his head in the game and did a magnificent job for his family and his country.
