St. Mary High girls and Port Antonio boys are champions of the east. They both recorded comfortable victories at Tuesday’s (27 April) Eastern Championships at the National Stadium in Kingston.

St. Mary won with 260.5 points ahead of Buff Bay 204, Titchfield 191.5, Port Antonio 97 and Glengoffe 89.

On the boys’ side, Port Antonio finished with 230 points ahead of Titchfield 203, Buff Bay 151, St. Mary 143 and Morant Bay 85.

Three records went at the shorten meet, which saw many events contested by three or fewer athletes or teams.

Javian Edwards of Oberlin set a new record in the boys’ open javelin. He threw 53.20m to break Raymond Richards’ 2020 mark of 52.33m.

Alexia Austin of Glengoffe ran 14.52secs to beat the Class 2 girls’ 100m hurdles 11-year-old mark of 14.74 set by Felecia Ferron.

Shantoy Chambers of Oberlin threw 11.26m to beat the Class 1 girls’ shot put record of 10.86m set last year by Talleen Gordon. Chambers also won the discus class 1 event with 37.53m.

Six individuals secured double victories.

Sydonie McIntosh of St. Mary won the Class 1 girls’ sprint double. She ran 12.51 in the 100m and 26.44 in the 200m.

Dejhaun Strachan topped the Class 2 boys’ sprint double in 11.34 and 22.83.

Ainsley Brown of Port Antonio took the 1500m (4:27.74) and 800m (2:03.35) double in Class 2.
Audley Thompson of Port Antonio won the Class 1 boys’ 1500m (4:39.64) and 800m (2:08.98) double.

Kimeisha Francis of St. Mary took the Class 3 girls’ high jump with 1.45m and long jump 5.56m.

Jaydon Parkes of Titchfield 1.85m and 5.75m won the Class 2 boys’ high and long jump events.

Buff Bay High’s Tamara Scott, the lone competitor in the triple open, failed to register a legal jump, resulting in her missing a double. She won the Class 1 girls’ long jump with 4.29m.
