PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad – Top local athletes tested their early season form at the recent NAAA Development Meet at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on Sunday January 10.
Concorde’s Jenea Spinks was impressive in the girls Under-18 100m and 200m, winning her heats comfortably. Youth Olympics 100m hurdles finalist and former Carifta and champion Jeminise Parris (Memphis) also showed that she is rounding into shape when she won the women’s 400m in fine fashion.
Spink and Parris are among several junior athletes who will be bidding to represent T&T at this year’s Carifta Games in Grenada at the end of March.
National discus record holder Quincy Wilson (Rebirth) won both the discus and shotput. Wilson’s goal for this year will be qualifying for the Rio Olympic Games in August.
The meet ended with the men’s medley relay with Memphis Athletic Club taking the top spot with a come-from-behind victory. Abilene Wildcats and Cougars Athletic Clubs were the stand-out clubs on the day with their athletes recording numerous victories. The January 10 meet was the third for the new athletic season.
Among the spectators were T&T’s 2013 World men’s 400m hurdles Champion Jehue Gordon and World and Olympic men’s 4x400m relay medalist Deon Lendore.
The next development meet was originally scheduled for Saturday, January 16 at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar but has been shifted to Sunday 17th January 2016 at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.
