Dafne Schippers has decided to withdraw from Friday’s (25 Sept) Doha Diamond League.

“I was planning to race in Doha too, but unfortunately my back needs rest now,” she wrote on her social media page.

“It was a short and crazy season! Some injury setbacks but most of all some very welcome signs of my old form coming back I’m already looking forward to next season.”

Schippers was down to face Jamaica’s Olympic Games sprint double champion, Elaine Thompson Herah.

Meanwhile, veteran Dutch distance runner Michel Butter has announced his retirement and will race professionally for the last time at the Egmond Half Marathon in January.

“After 20 fantastic years, I am ending my top sports career. Top sport requires complete dedication and determination. I can no longer live that uncompromising life because my level no longer matches the ambition,” he wrote on Instagram.

Butter has a 2:09:58 PB for the marathon which was set in Amsterdam in 2018.

  1. Elaine is not waiting on as chippers absence to win a given race .What were you expecting to happen when Elaine and Schippers run?

  2. A clear win with a fast time. No one else has broken 11s this year. Ta Lou is improving but difficult to see a real challenge only a week after their last outing. Go Elaine! 😍🇯🇲🤞🏼
