TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama men’s and women’s track & field teams will send 21 athletes to the 2017 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in College Station, Texas, March 10-11. The meet will be held at the Gilliam Indoor Track at Texas A&M University. The Crimson Tide will compete in seven men’s events and nine women’s events at the two-day meet.

Trinidad and Tobago’s Jereem Richards will lead the 21 student-athletes combined between the two teams is the most Alabama has sent to an NCAA indoor championship meet.

Competing for the No. 6-ranked Tide men will be seniors Steven Gayle (400 meters, 4×400 relay), Kyle Felpel (shot put), Jacopo Lahbi (4×400 relay) and Elias Hakansson (weight throw); juniors Jereem Richards (200 meters, 4×400 relay), Alfred Chelanga (5,000 meters), Angelo Goss (60-meter hurdles), Ruebin Walters (60-meter hurdles) and Daniel Haugh (weight throw); sophomore Skyler Bowden (4×400 relay) and freshman Will Allen (4×400 relay).

Women’s competitors for No. 7 Alabama will be seniors Quanesha Burks (long jump, 60 meters), Alex Gholston (400 meters, 4×400 relay), Vanessa Clerveaux (60-meter hurdles), Lakan Taylor (pole vault), Domonique Williams (4×400 relay) and Diamond Gause (4×400 relay); junior Haley Teel (shot put); sophomore Stacey Destin (high jump, pentathlon) and freshmen Takyera Roberson (4×400 relay) and Symone Darius (4×400 relay).

The Alabama men are coming off a 93-point, second-place finish at the SEC Indoor Track & Field Championships last weekend. The runner-up finish is the best for the Tide men since 1984 and the point total is one off the team record of 94, set in 1983.

The Alabama women finished sixth at the SEC meet, their best finish since 2006. The two teams combined for two event championships, five school records and 29 performances that rank among the top 10 in school history for their respective events.
