VENISSIEUX, France – Melina Robert-Michon opened her season with 61.36m in the discus at her regional championships in Venissieux. Her next competition will be in Salon-de-Provence on 15 February.
OSAKA, Japan – During day two of Japanese indoor championships Shuhei Tada won the 60m in 6.58. Ryochi Akamatsu cleared 2.21m in the high jump, Seito Yamamoto 5.50m in the pole vault and Shotaru Shiroyama 7.90m in the long jump.
EDINBURG, USA – James Ngandu won the 38th All-America City 10km in 28 minutes, 46secs over Daniel Kemoi 28 minutes and 53secs. Monicah Ngige topped women in 33 minutes and 27secs.
COAMO, Purto Rico – The defending men’s champion, Daniel Mesfun, finished a distant third at 58th San Blas Half-Marathon 65 minutes and 43secs and Edwin Koech got the win in 64 minutes 04secs.
Margaret Toroitich, 40, last year’s runner-up behind Beverly Ramos, won this year in 75 minutes and 44secs. Ramos did not take part, but she coaches the fifth-place finisher in the men’s race, Alvaro Abreu, a Dominican who lived in Puerto Rico.
SLAVYANSK, Russia – Anatoliy Ryapolov leapt to 7.92m at the Governor Cup in the long jump. Yekaterina Koneva won women’s event with 6.35m. Danyil Tsyplakov cleared 2.20m in the high jump, and Aleksandr Lesnoy won shot 19.30m.
BANGKOK – Ethiopian Belay Olkeba won the Amazing Thailand Marathon in 2:19.31. Mathew Samperu from Kenya 64 minutes and 43secs won the half marathon. James Karanja ran 29 minutes and 20secs for the 10km victory.
On the women’s side, Tsedal Gebretsadik topped the marathon in 2:42.28 ahead of Ugandan Immaculate Chemutai 2:42.39.
COCHABAMBA – Aleksandro De Melo completed a jumping double at South American indoor championships with 17.10m to take the triple jump. Fernando Ferreira won the high jump with 2.25m and Gabriele Souza, the women triple 13.92m. Virjilio Griggs from Panama clocked 20.81 in the 200m.
TORONTO – Bolade Ajomale clocked 6.64secs in the 60m at the York Open meet, while Crystal Emmanuel won women’s race in 7.25. Brittany Crew threw 18.30 to take the shot put.
ISTANBUL – At national championships, Mizgin Ay clocked a national U23 record, 7.32s to win the 60m. Kayhan Ozer 6.71 took the men’s 60m, Emel Dereli threw 17.66m in the shot put, and Alperen Acet cleared 2.20m in the high jump.
JOHANNESBURG – Johnson Cheswell leapt to excellent 8.20 in the long jump here (+0.3m/s wind).
