Elaine Thompson leads women's 100m field at Jamaica Invitational

Olympic Games sprint double champion Elaine Thompson raced for the first time this season on Saturday (7 July).

Also, Thompson, who won her titles at the Rio 2016 Olympics, said racing as a wife made her happy.

She wrote on social media: “Racing as a wife am so happy.”

Thompson, who won the 100m and 200m at the Rio 2016 Olympics, married Derron Herah on Saturday, 2 November 2019 in Ocho Rios, Jamaica.

Thompson, one of the most feared sprinters in the world, was happy to be back on track. “Back on the track after nine months is a good feeling.”

Her last race was last October at the Doha 2019 World Championships where she left without a medal.

In the women’s 200m (-2.2m/s wind) at Saturday’s (7 July) Velocity Fest held at Jamaica College, Doha 2019 400m bronze medallist Shericka Jackson ran 22.89 to win ahead of Thompson, 22.98.

“I am a little race rusty, but a girl is ready to take on any obstacles in her way,” she added.

“Lord, you are worthy. I hope for nothing but health and healing,” continued the 10.71 sprinters.

Thompson, the Beijing 2015 World 200m silver medallist, closed by saying she is “looking like 16.”
