Noah Lyles wins Diamond League sprint double
Noah Lyles, the day before Brussels Diamond League, was coy about what sort of time he would produce in tonight's 200m, although he did say he wanted a PB

Noah Lyles and Steven Gardiner broke 20 seconds at Saturday’s (25 July) USATF’s Back to the Track Series Meeting in Clermont, Florida.

USA’s Lyles, who is the Doha 2019 World 200m champion, won heat one in 19.94 (0.8m/s wind).

Lyles’ time beat the previous world best of 20.06 set by Kenneth Bednarek, set earlier this month.

Bahamian World 400m champion Gardiner, later in heat 2, dropped 19.96 (1.0m/second-fastest time of the year, to finish second overall.

Gardiner, after the run, said, “Great Day And Season Opener In The 200M 19.96.”

He also praised Shaunae Miller-Uibo, who ran 21.98 on Saturday and 10.98 on Friday. “My Bestie Did Her Thing Also! 🔥❤️ 21.98,” he shared on his social media page.

Kenny Bednarek, who finished second in Lyles’ heat, ended third overall with 20.19.

Divine Oduduru finished 4th in 20.22.

Jamaican Nathon Allen, who ran against Lyles, finished seventh overall with 20.45. Senoj-Jay Givans, the other Jamaican, did not start.

Canadian Andre DeGrasse finished sixth in 20.24.

  1. These ladies and gentlemen are running some good times even though it has been hard getting good meets together due to the worldwide pandemic. Keep up the good work.

  2. I would have been nicer if both ran in the same heat…im sure Steven Gardiner would gave given Noah Lyles a run for his money.
Steven has improved big time over the distance…i wonder if he too is thinking about doubling at any major anytime soon.

    Congratulations 🎉 boss
