Kingston, Jamaica – Bouwahjgie Nkrumie of Kingston College took the lead in the Class 1 boys’ 100m heats on Tuesday, March 28, during the opening day of the ISSA GraceKennedy Boys and Girls Athletics Championships (Champs23).
Nkrumie won his heat with a leisurely 10.51 seconds, advancing to the semi-finals.
Jamaica College’s Jaiden Reid impressed with a time of 10.52 seconds, while Junior Harris from Camperdown High and Javorne Dunkley of St. Elizabeth completed the top four qualifiers with 10.56 and 10.59 seconds, respectively.

In the Class 1 girls’ 100m heats, Serena Cole from Edwin Allen High School dominated at 11.57 seconds. Alexis James of Petersfield High and Tonie-Ann Forbes of Edwin Allen High also qualified for the semi-finals, clocking times of 11.74 and 11.80 seconds, respectively.
Alana Reid of Hydel, with 11.81, also made easy progress.
In the Class 2 boys’ 100m heats, Kingston College’s Nicardo Clarke finished first with a time of 10.95 seconds. Tavaine Stewart of Herbert Morrison, Johan-Ramaldo Smy of Muschett High, and Tramaine Todd of St. Elizabeth closely followed him.
Shemonique Hazle from Hydel High shined in the Class 2 girls’ 100m heats, finishing with a time of 12.17 seconds. Kaycian Johnson of St. Catherine High, Doniellia Lewis of Edwin Allen High, and Akhalia Collins of Holmwood Technical also secured their spots in the semi-finals at 12.19, 12.20, and 12.24 seconds, respectively.
Several other talented young athletes qualified for the semi-finals in Classes 3 and 4, including Malique Dennis of Jamaica College, Theianna-Lee Terr of Edwin Allen High, and Maria Baker of Holmwood Technical.
The ISSA GraceKennedy Boys and Girls Athletics Championships, Champs23, will continue with the semi-finals and finals on Wednesday at the National Stadium in Kingston.
