KINGSTON, Jamaica — Briana Williams improved her own national junior record over the 100m on day two at the 2019 Jamaica Senior and Junior National Championships here at the National Stadium.

The Ato Boldon coached, Florida-based sprinter registered a time of 11.01 seconds to finish second to Elaine Thompson in semi-final two of the women’s 100m.

Williams, the World Junior sprint double champion from 2018 improved her own national junior record of 11.02, set earlier this month in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The semi-final heat was won by Olympic sprint double champion Thompson, who posted a comfortable 10.89 seconds, which was the swiftest time of the two heats tonight.

Also making progress from the semi-final was Natasha Morrison, who ran 11.23 for third place.

Meanwhile, three-time world champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce ran a cruising 10.93 seconds to win the first semi-finals.

Jonielle Smith posted a season’s best of 11.16 for second place, while Natalliah Whyte ran 11.20 for third.

On the men’s side, defending champion Tyquendo Tracey stayed on course to defend his national title after he won semi-final heat one in 10.21, beating Rasheed Dwyer (10.26) and Kemar Bailey-Cole (10.27).

Yohan Blake won the second semis in 10.05 ahead of Waseem Williams (10.06) and Julian Forte (10.17).

The finals are slated for later tonight.
