Claude Bryan, manager of Shaunae Miller-Uibo, is hoping that there is some concession for his star athlete to attempt the 200/400 double at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

“We have already petitioned the IAAF for Tokyo, and I will be asking the BAAA to request the BOC’s assistance in this matter to further entreat the IAAF to request an adjustment to facilitate,” said Bryan.

The Bahamas Association of Athletic Associations (BAAA) is the governing body for track and field in the country. The Bahamas Olympic Committee (BOC) is responsible for Olympic sports.

The IAAF, in the past, has facilitated change in its schedule to help Michael Johnson win the double at the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games.

Miller-Uibo opted against the double in Doha because the 200m final is on October 2 and the 400m final on October 3.

According to the Tribune, Bryan said the Bahamas has a special gem in Miller-Uibo, who is one of the rare competitors who only comes along every blue moon.

Miller-Uibo is the reigning Olympic 400m champion. She, however, missed the double at the London 2017 World Championships.

Miller-Uibo holds both 200 (21.88) and 400m (48.97) records for the Bahamas.

“On talent, she’s special, real special,” he summed up.

  1. Everton Neil I gave the gold medal to ET already because Miller will only be running the 400 at the WC unless they change the schedule of events.

  2. Wendell Powerful Steven Francis have a way of having his girls peaking at the opportune time for big Champions( he has lost one since 2008 and it took 2nd fastest time, I think, by Schippers) so I’m not ready to hand Miller-Uibo gold medal yet. I don’t think we have seen the very best of ET yet for this season. She ran a relaxed 22.00 at JA trials then went back into cruise control mode in lead up to WC.

  3. Everton Neil She have to lose first before I’m proven wrong. It only seem so because Shelly Ann was like a bullet from a gun over the first 150 and Miller couldn’t keep pace. But she stormed through on the last 50 and won.

  4. @ Philip Watts – what does that have to do with the request? Do you have to run a certain number of races prior to making the request or just be good at both?

  5. The 200 and 400 semis are the same day. However the finals are spread over 2 days I think. Why can’t she do both? The men who want to double have a worse situation. The 400m heats and the 200m final are four hours and five minutes apart on Day 5.

  6. If they’ve done it for the rest what’s the problem now make the two optional so that athletes can be able to choose .

  7. However,it would be nice if they accommodate her,but the BAAA and the Bahamas Olympic Committee needs to do a joint letter to the IAAF on behalf of of Shaunae Miller-Uibo and the people of THE COMMONWEALTH OF THE BAHAMAS.

  8. Hmmm. I would love to see that because it will be hard for her to do both. The 400m is also stacked. I hope they facilitate her request
