FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 7 University of Arkansas men’s track and field team hosts its second meet of the outdoor season this weekend with the John McDonnell Invitational in Fayetteville. Included in the six-team field, the Razorbacks will face another ranked team and an SEC foe at this weekend’s meet. Competition begins Friday at 1 p.m. (CT) and picks back up Saturday with prime time set for 5 p.m.
In the first regular-season rankings release of the outdoor campaign, the Razorbacks are No. 7 in this week’s USTFCCCA national poll. At last weekend’s Stanford Invitational, Kemoy Campbell registered an NCAA top-10 performance at 10,000 meters with his time of 28:45.84. He ranks No. 8 in the country in the event. Arkansas has yet to post marks from Andrew Irwin, Jarrion Lawson and Omar McLeod in their respective individual events; all are entered to compete this weekend.
McLeod enters the early stages of the outdoor season as a member of the Bowerman Watch List after winning the NCAA indoor title in the 60-meter hurdles with a collegiate-record time of 7.45. In its last outing, Arkansas posted seven top-five finishes at the Stanford Invitational including a win by Alex Campbell in the collegiate section of the high jump.
In addition to the Razorbacks, this weekend’s field at the John McDonnell Invitational is set to include Kansas, Memphis, Missouri, No. 15 Oklahoma State and Tulsa. For the first time in meet history, there will be high school competition. With the exception of a few college field events Friday, the opening day will feature mostly high school action.
