RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil – Omar McLeod stayed on course to capture the men’s 110m hurdles crown at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
The world leader, who is the overwhelming favourite for the title, breezed through semi-final 2 in 13.15.
The world indoor champion wasn’t the fastest out of the blocks, but was very smooth in racing down the track over the hurdles to beat Pascal Martinot-Lagarde, 13.25.
In the first semi-final, Deuce Carter, who was right in the mix, hit the 8th hurdle, which threw him off and back into 6th place. His time of 13.69 wasn’t enough to put him further.
Orlando Ortega of Spain won the event in 13.32 ahead of Ronnie Ash of United States 13.36. Both automatically qualified for the final later tonight.
Andrew Riley, the third Jamaican in the semis, also failed to make progress with 13.69.
Dimitri Bascou won the race in 13.23.
