Jamaica’s senior track and field coach Maurice Wilson is the new principal of GC Foster College of Physical Education and Sports.

David Mais, chairman of the institution’s board, announced the appointment on Friday, 31 January.

Wilson has acted in the post since the departure of former principal Dr Joyce Graham Royal in 2017. Wilson, who joined the GC Foster College staff in 2003, served as lecturer, principal lecturer and vice-principal.

Wilson, the founder and head coach of Sprintec Track and Field Club, coached Ristanana Tracey to bronze in the women’s 400m hurdles at the London 2017 World Athletics Championships.

Demish Gaye, Sashalee Forbes, Rhonda Whyte, Natasha Morrison, Anastasia LeRoy and Rasheed Dwyer are just some of the national representatives at Sprintec.

Wilson has led several Jamaica’s coaching staff to Olympic Games and World Championships.

He attended four Olympic Games, the last two as head coach. He went to nine World Championships, serving as a coach, head coach and technical director.

He is a World Athletics (IAAF) Level 5-certified coach in sprint and hurdles. He led Holmwood to 10 titles, nine straight from 2003 at Boys and Girls Champs.
