The annual ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships (Champs) will have a new look in 2021.
Champs 2021, because of the COVID-19 restrictions, will only able to accommodate less than 1,000 athletes. The event caters to over 2,400 athletes on a yearly basis.
According to ISSA president, Keith Wellington, the sprints, 100m, 200m and 400m, will only have 32 athletes – top two from each regional meet and the next best 24.
The hurdles and 800m will have the top 24 island-wide while the distance races – 1500m up will only take the top 16.
Relays will be the top 16 schools, but there will be no qualifying standard for the medley.
Decathlon and Heptathlon will accept all entries accepted
In the field, all events will take the top 12 across all development and regional championships.
Meanwhile, Tuesday, March 23 to Saturday, March 27 is the tentative dates set for Champs 2021. However, ISSA has also booked May 4-8 as standby.
