LONDON – Ivorian Marie-Josée Ta Lou, the London 2017 World 100m silver medallist, was looking forward to face American Tori Bowie in the women’s 200m.
However, Bowie, winner of the women’s 100m, just beating Ta Lou on the line, withdrew at the last minute.
“Tori Bowie has withdrawn from the 200 meters as she continues to recover from her fall at the conclusion of the women’s 100-meter final Sunday evening. Her condition will continue to be evaluated to assess her readiness for the 4×100 relay,” said a statement from US Track and Field.
But according to Ta Lou, who wasn’t aware of the release at the time, said: “I am quite surprised. I just hope it isn’t a big problem.”
“I don’t know why she did not line up. Maybe it was because she fell the other night on the dip but I have not heard anything. It is sad that she isn’t in this event because I like to compete against the strongest field possible.”
The women’s 200m heats ran on Tuesday evening.
