Kirani James wins Memorial Borisa Hanžekovića

Grenadian Kirani James marked his return to form with a sub-45 second run at Friday’s (6 Sept) Memorial Francisco Ramon Higueras in Andújar, Spain.

James, the London 2012 Olympic Games champion, shone brightly with 44.47 to win the men’s 400m dash.

Youssef Karam trilled James across the line in 45.51 and Liemarvin Bonevacia, 46.04.

Terry Thomas, who was chasing qualification to the Doha 2019 World Championships, missed the automatic time of 45.30. He finished fifth in 46.26.

Meanwhile, Michael Norman ran 44.26 to beat compatriot Fred Kerley 44.46 to win the Brussels Diamond League Final, also on Friday.

Akeem Bloomfield, who finished third, was timed in 44.67.

As a person of Caribbean descent if I knew what I knew now I wouldn’t have stopped running when I did in my younger years but to know that in my mature years the competitors that I’ve lined up have and will compete in the world championships the olympic trials and possibly the Olympics feels good. I ve seen the Penn relays and seen the depth of Jamaican youth talent but the young men aren’t visable since bolt left what’s going on?
