Jamaican Kiara Grant won the women’s sprint double at last weekend’s (12-13 Feb) Norfolk State Invitational in Virginia Beach, USA.

Grant, who previously attended Convent of Mercy Academy “ALPHA” in Jamaica, topped the 60m dash in 7.25. Grant, who ran a personal best 7.20 at Virginia Beach Invitational on 1 Feb, ran 7.35 to qualify for the final.

American DaJah Parker-Love, 7.35 and Latifa Ali of Ghana, 7.47 took the minor places.

Two other Caribbean athletes, quarter-miler Ashley Kelly of British Virgin Islands’ finished fifth in 7.68 and Yanique Haye-Smith, who recently switched from Jamaica to the Turks and Caicos Islands, finished sixth, 7.73.

In the 200m, Grant raced to a season-best 23.68 to beat Parker-Love, the B race winner in 23.90 and Ali, 24.10.

Haye-Smith, a 400m hurdles specialist, ran 24.25 for third place.

Haye-Smith also ran the 400m and finished second in 54.78 behind Italian Giancarla Dimich Trevisan, 54.00.

Jeremy Bascom of Guyana ran 6.78 for fourth in the men’s 60m dash, won by Joseph Amoah of Ghana in 6.61.

Amoah also won the 200m in a season-best 20.79.

Jamaican Rayon Lawrence was a second-place finisher in the men’s 400m, running 49.49 to top the B race. American Abayie Opuni, the A race winner, finished first overall in 48.31.

Trey Holloway of USA won the men’s 60m hurdles in 7.78. He ran 7.79 in the heats.
