STATEN ISLAND, USA – Jamaican sprinting talent Kiara Grant won the women’s 200m at the Great Dane Classic here on Saturday, 11 January.

The 19-year-old ran 23.25 seconds, short of her personal best of 23.15s, to win the event ahead of her Norfolk State teammate Malika Pride, 24.32.

Grace Claxton of Puerto Rico ran 24.49 for third in the event.

Grant returned to anchor Norfolk State to a 3:46.80 victory in the women’s 4x400m relay. George Mason with former St. Andrew High School for Girls athlete, Kelly-Ann Downer, finished second in 3:48.04s.

Trinidad & Tobago’s London 2012 Olympic Games 400m bronze medallist, Lalonde Gordon, won the men’s 200m in 21.34s. Gordon was also a member of Trinidad and Tobago’s gold medal 4x400m team from London 2017 World Championships.

Bervensky Pierre with 21.69 was the day’s second-fastest 200m runner.

Jamaican Andre Clarke, running under Chase Athletics/Puma, recorded 47.61 in the men’s 400m. John Lundy, 47.44 did the event’s fastest time. Chase Athletics is being founded and coached by Jamaican Olympian Sanjay Ayre.

Chidinma Matthew of Albany in 7.55 won the women’s 60m while Christian McFadden of Saint Francis University took the men’s event in 6.79s.
