Kevona Davis ran her first 100m of the 2020 season at Saturday’s (15 Feb) Ben Francis Invitational Meet at GC Foster College in Spanish Town.

Davis, who is one of Jamaica’s brightest junior sprinters, battled a powerful headwind to cross the finish line in 12.08secs.

Davis’ Edwin Allen teammates, Denae McFarlane 12.61 and Shanique Rowe, 12.86, were second and third respectively.

Michael Dyke, Edwin Allen’s head coach, said Davis’ time wasn’t a true reflection of her performance. Dyke said, “there was a strong headwind, powerful, and there was no wind guage.”

He also said “Kevona is on track” in preparation for her 2020 targets – Champs and World U20 Championships.

“I just wanted her to get a 100m run before Champs,” Dyke told Trackalerts.com in response to if he is satisfied with Davis’ performance today.

Over the past three seasons, Davis, the 2017 World Youth bronze medallist, ran 11.19 and 11.16 to win in Class 2 at Champs. She ran 11.24 in 2017.

She, however, is expected to have things a little tougher this year with defending Class 1 champion Ashanti Moore, who ran 11.17 to win in 2019.

  1. I just hope she has an injury-free season for 2020 and 2021. There was no wind gauge so we don’t know how strong it really was but for an athlete of her caliber….they must have been running in a tropical storm wind.

  2. Bling St Paul ok Sir. I never doubt her talent and very happy to see her on the Track. I just don’t think her current Coach can develop her into a World Class Sprinter. But time will tell and I truly hope I am wrong . Blessings Kevona.

  3. @Crosy Freshh I know I was just reiterating what you are trying to point out to some posters especially Mr Griffiths. Further more this is her first 100m race I don’t see what it as to do with the 200m she ran last week. I can tell me Griffiths and the other doubters one thing and that is this young lady will create some history this year

  4. @ Bling St Paul i didn say anything sir regarding time i simply stated we all know what shes capable of an the wind at gc is a factor

  5. @Bling St Paul you need to tell mr Leighton Griffiths that sir. Hes the one insisting its not a good time given the conditions. I had no objections i was an athlete myself so i know a strong head wind will affect time especially in the sprints

  6. Theres even an athlete in class 2 named serena cole who easily runs 11.5 seconds an i saw her run at max at gc foster an the time was about 12.56 seconds due to the conditions

  7. Great prospect and I am happy to see her back. Like everything, it will take time to get her into shape. I have all the confidence in her coach and the rest of the team around her. And with God’s help we should be hearing great things about her in the future.

  8. @Leighton Griffiths bro she ran 22 seconds two weeks ago and she did 12.08 today because of a strong head wind go figure. Smh. I was at both meets. Nothing is wrong she just ran on a very windy day. I was there an it was awfully windy trust me

  9. 12:08 is definitely not a good time but glad to see her healthy and running. I hope ?? her coach can get her to the next step.
