Kevona Davis opens season on 25 Jan 2020

Kevona Davis said she is “alive” and “raring to go” for the 2020 track and field season.

Davis’ comment came after her stunning 22.86 season opener on the grass at STETHS Invitational on January 25 in Santa Cruz, St. Elizabeth.

“I am feeling alive and well, thanks to God,”…Davis was quoted saying.

“I was planning on running like a 24 or 25-something … Coming out here and running this time, I feel super, super happy,” she said while adding “I have trained hard and recovered properly.”

Despite dominating Champs with times of 11.16s and 11.18s in 2018 and 2019 respectively, the 18-year-old missed out on representing Jamaica at international competitions.

Davis suffered from hamstring injuries in the past, but according to her coach Michael Dyke, the “necessary treatment” took place.
“We have done all the necessary treatment to make sure she is back to full fitness, and from what you have seen, she is pretty much ready and raring to go.”

Davis, who ran a personal best 22.72 to win the Class 2 girls’ 200m in 2018, also commented: “I have done a lot of rehabs, I have done a lot of strength work, and I am working on the areas that I have weak in (now),” she added.

“The doctors told me that I am fine now, so I am ready and raring to go,” she noted.

Davis is a strong contender to make Jamaica’s team to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games but is not yet admitting to that event.

“Champs and World Under-20 and all those meets are what I have planned for this year,” she explained.

Davis, Briana Williams, Ashanti Moore and Kiara Grant are the teenager stars to watch in 2020.
