Jamaican middle-distance runner Kemoy Campbell says the dramatic collapse that ended his career at the Millrose Games this year totally changed his outlook on life.

Speaking ahead of the World Athletics Awards, he said: “Certain things I used to take for granted, I don’t anymore.”

“Before the incident, I was planning my whole future and when that happened it went out the window,” he said.

Campbell, who was acting as the pace-setter during the sixth lap of the men’s 3,000m at the Millrose Games in New York on 9 Feb 2019, fell off the banked track into the infield near where the men’s shot put competition was underway.

The 28-year-old did not immediately respond to contact from nearby personnel.
Police and paramedics soon arrived and reportedly had to use a defibrillator on his unconscious body. He was revived and taken to a nearby hospital.

“Even up to this day, I can’t recall,” he was quoted by World Athletics.
